Etsy works differently from Amazon
Important up front: Etsy is not Amazon. Where Amazon demands a pure white background, Etsy lives on atmosphere and handmade character — natural materials, warm light, the product in context. The square-preview problem
The technical detail almost everyone overlooks: in search and the shop overview, Etsy shows the title image as a square, even though 4:3 is recommended. A subject that only works in the full 4:3 frame gets clipped in the square preview — and the preview decides the click. The solution: compose the subject centered so a square crop from the middle looks complete and appealing. Upload 4:3, but compose for the square.
Ten photos that sell
Etsy allows up to ten images — and because the buyer can't touch the handmade item, the photos replace inspection. A proven order:

- Daylight by the window — soft, side light, no flash (the same rule as with food photos).
- A calm, fitting surface — wood, linen, natural stone; the background supports the handmade character.

The technical finish
